Phukethon 2017: Color Fun Run & Jelly Beach Run

The palatable Pad Thai, Tom Yam Gung, Green Curry, Pineapple Fried Rice, Som Tam..... are irresistible impulses to almost everybody. When in Phuket, the major things in mind are definitely the toothsome Thai Cuisine. Some other things are the breathtaking beaches, followed by the chaotic yet captivating night markets.

Phuket offers something to everyone. And everyone's holiday escapade is different. Although you may walk the same road, swim at the same beach, shop in the same market, drink at the same bar, we all have an individual story to tell.

Today, I am going to tell my story.

It was a fascinating eye-opener to have witnessed the successful outcome of this inaugural event in our neighborhood country. Thailand is already a favorite vacation destination to many. What more imagine having to run on Phuket Island was a wonderful, grand, and energizing idea.

Phukethon was an innovative tourism run event, by using mass participation sport to create the great dimension of the event in Phuket Island. This first-ever Asia's Major International Marathon Festival welcomed all runners from around the world in term of sports tourism. Local runners from 14 southern provinces, runners across, and international runners from over the world joined the force and created a new page of history in Thailand and represented a new dimension of a sustainable world-class tourism location.

Remarkably, there were various kinds of activities for participants to indulge in on the next three event days! Phukethon designed the ultimate running route that was a challenge for runners who wanted to experience nature and challenge your limit to explore the most beautiful views in the running paradise island.

Color Fun Run

On the second day, the delightful Saturday morning kicked off with a Color Fun Run presented by Thanyapura, the largest sports training center in Thailand. If you are a seasoned runner at running events, what about running to get drenched in colors?

Run, walk, jog or even dance through the 1, 2, or 5km course with family and friends, whilst getting covered and sprayed head to toe in color at every kilometer mark. Saphan Hin Park was thoroughly flooded with colors. Not onyl the runners were painted with vibrant colors, the spectators also immersed themselves in the fun.

5km Jelly Beach Run

The sun was getting hotter every moment. Although it was becoming intolerable, the head did not defeat my liveliness. At 4pm, runners including me gathered at the awe-inspiring Nai Harn Beach getting ready for a 5km beach run. This run with a brief distance was taken a warm-up before the official run on the following day.

Participants were lined with the humongous coconut trees that stood still along the beach. Some dawdled in their shadows before letting the sunrays heat their unguarded shoulders. As the emcee gave a few words before the flag-off, I saw grins spreading over everyone's faces. Different faces were everywhere; the local runners alongside their children. There were running couples. I saw "Unison".

As the run was flagged off, the sun was right over the head. At the first 2 kilometers, I felt thirsty. Fluids were in much demand. Slowly, I began to have smoother breathing. Running past a few hotel, temples, restaurants, and shops, this place retained its quiet charm. This superb spotless beach was tucked between green hills and tiny islands. Eventually, the climate decreased.

Aside from fighting against the heat, I focused and kept going towards the finish line. The sceneries along the route captured not only my sight but also my heart. This first-time experience was already going to leave an imprint on my mind.
